Get A Clear Picture of Your Skin
When discovered in its early stages, patients with melanoma have a 97 percent chance of surviving.
However, as melanoma grows and spreads, that survival rate dramatically decreases to only a 17 percent chance.
This is why it is extremely crucial to catch melanoma early.
Mole mapping is a powerful tool to help in the fight against cancer. It uses a device that takes pictures of patients’ skin. Artificial intelligence then analyzes all the moles in the pictures and determines which can be suggested to be cancer.
Approximately 9,000 Canadians are diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer each year.

Mole Mapping
Mole mapping is a screening to detect skin cancer as early as possible.
Also known as Automated Total Body Mapping (ATBM), it provides a way to track changes on your skin if you have a large number of unusual moles or if you have a history of skin cancer.
Because it shows a history of changes to your skin over time, mole mapping can also help dermatologists diagnose melanoma and skin cancer earlier.

Benefits of Mole Mapping
Mole mapping can help identify skin cancers early and, in some cases, reduces the need for biopsies.
Detects Skin Cancer Early
The main benefit of mole mapping is that it can help detect or diagnose skin cancer early. The sooner this type of cancer is detected, the higher the chance of survival is.
Mole mapping can be especially useful for patients who have a high chance of developing skin cancer. This includes those who have a large number of moles, or have a family history of skin cancer. These patients can look at and compare images of how their skin used to look, helping them more effectively spot changes on their skin.
Reduces the Need for Biopsies
A biopsy is a procedure to remove a piece of tissue or a sample of cells from your body so that it can be tested in a laboratory. They are performed to diagnose different forms of cancer.
With its advanced technology, mole mapping can detect if you have skin cancer, which reduces the need for biopsies and will save you time and money. Fewer biopsies also leads to less pain and scarring.
Provides a Clear Picture of Your Entire Skin
It is possible to perform routine skin check-ups on yourself at home, however, they may not always be completely accurate. For instance, certain parts of our bodies are difficult to examine because they are hard to reach, such as our backs and necks.
The mole mapping process examines every surface of your skin so you don’t have to. It provides a clear, accurate picture of your whole skin, including areas that you may have missed, so no surface goes undetected.
Don’t become a statistic.
Invest now in your future health and be fit for the long term.
How Mole Mapping Works
Step 1
Step 2
Step 3
Your doctor can compare your moles with photos from your initial visit and immediately identify any changes or abnormalities.
Mole mapping is not a replacement for the clinical exam you have with your family doctor, but rather the two are used together to help more thoroughly assess concerns related to your skin.
Reasons to Get Mole Mapping
Fewer Skin Cancer Deaths
Improved Accuracy of Diagnosis
Thorough Skin Examination
Dermatologists can use mole mapping images to improve a patient’s yearly skin check, which makes your skin examination more thorough. It helps them more accurately track changes in a patient’s skin.
It is a popular belief that melanoma usually forms inside a mole that you have already had for a while. However, the truth is that almost 70 percent of melanomas are new. Only 30 percent of melanomas arise from moles you have had for a while that suddenly change.

FAQ
How long does a mole mapping session generally take?
Are there any contraindications to mole mapping?
How often should mole mapping be performed?
How should I prepare for a mole mapping session?
- During the appointment, wear comfortable clothing and shoes that are easy to remove.
- Do not wear any makeup as this could potentially cover up the moles and they will go undetected during the examination.
- Do not use any self-tanning products in the week leading up to your appointment.
- If you have a significant amount of body hair, it is encouraged to trim or shave the area so that the moles can be visualized and detected by the camera.
- If you have long hair, please tie it up during the session so it is out of the way and not covering any potential moles on your neck or back.
Do I still need to get full body skin exams if I do mole mapping?
- Asymmetrical: when a spot changes to a round or oval shape, and the halves no longer match.
- Border: irregularities appear along the edge of a mole.
- Color: suspicious changes in mole color, including unevenness or even additional colors.
- Diameter: moles that grow larger than 6 mm, or ¼ of an inch.
- Evolving: any changes to a mole, particularly one that has been stable and unchanging for years, such as color, shape, size, etc.
